Postgraduate Conference 2017

The 6th annual CI Postgraduate Conference was held on 3rd November 2017 at the Merrison Lecture Theatre of Daresbury Lab. It attracted 40 postgraduates and academics from all four CI Universities (Lancaster, Liverpool, Manchester and Strathclyde) and ASTeC. CI Director, Prof. Peter Ratoff gave an opening speech. He welcomed all the participants and introduced the latest news about the institute. It was then followed by 12 presentations covering a wide variety of research activities going on in the institute.

A judging committee made up of lecturers and senior ASTeC staff marked each presentation based on their presentation style, technical contents, research context and question handling. The overall quality of the presentations was very high. Finally the first prize was given to Christina Small (A comparative study of biological effects of VHEE, protons and other radiotherapy modalities) from the University of Manchester. The second prize went to Alisa Healy (Electron-THz interaction in dielectric-lined waveguide deflecting structures) from Lancaster University. The third prize was received by Yangmei Li (Multi-proton bunch driven hollow plasma wakefield acceleration in the nonlinear regime) from the University of Manchester.

In addition to the presentations, the poster session was arranged and the senior postgraduate students presented their posters. The best poster prize was given to Thomas Pacey (Dielectric wakefield program at CLARA) from the University of Manchester.

The CI Postgraduate Conference is an important annual event for all CI postgraduates and it provides a platform for them to network and present research results to their peers and experienced academics.
