IoP Particle Accelerator & Beams Group Prize talk: Professor Andy Wolski

The annual meeting of the IoP’s Particle Accelerator and Beams Group (PABG) was hosted by Lancaster University on 18th April. There was a wide range of speakers from national facilities, industry and universities. Andy Wolski of the University of Liverpool and the Cockcroft Institute, the Group Prize winner of 2017 (see https://bit.ly/2FiQS27 ), gave the Group Prize talk – a delightful and informative history of the life and research of the great Irish physicist William Hamilton. The entire Institute wishes to congratulate Andy on having his scientific achievements recognised in this very significant way. He was awarded the prize “For his outstanding fundamental research leading to ultra-high-quality beam generation at accelerator facilities worldwide, for his international contributions to educating a new generation of accelerator scientists, and for his strategic leadership both nationally and internationally.”
