The Cockcroft Institute Summer Student Programme 2026
Get involved in world-leading R&D and help foster the next generation of scientific talent by submitting a project for talented physics and engineering students to work on.
With access to unique equipment and expertise, students will be employed by one of the Cockcroft partner universities and supervised by an experienced member of our team to help guide the work.

Dates
The programme will run for 7 weeks:
- 29th June – 14th August 2026.
This includes two days* at the beginning and end where all students will be at Daresbury Labs for introductory tours, talks and presentations, and to present project outcomes.
*Days to be confirmed.
Cost
£5000 per student (ex. VAT).
Covers:
- National living wage for 7 weeks.
- Travel, accommodation and food for group days spent at Daresbury Labs.
Location
Students can be based at, and projects can be undertaken at any one or a combination of:
- Daresbury Laboratory.
- Company premises.
- A partner university.
