Science Extravaganza hosted at Daresbury Laboratory

Our particle accelerator escape room “Acceler8Escape” was one of the exciting workshops delivered at the Passion4Learning Science Extravaganza hosted at Daresbury National Laboratory on 9th July 2026.

A total of 136 pupils aged 8-11 from 5 local primary schools took part throughout the day, working in teams to solve puzzles and learn all about the lasers, magnets, cavities and radiation used in particle accelerators.

The escape room, created by CI member Dr Morgan Hibberd at the University of Manchester in collaboration with the STFC Public Engagement team and Cockcroft Institute of Accelerator Science, was run by a team of researchers from the University of Manchester and supported by our new summer student on the EU-funded ERNEST project, Danil, who is working on new ideas and puzzles to make it even better!

This event is part of ongoing activities building towards the European Researchers’ Night, where the ERNEST collaboration is set to deliver a network of escape room public engagement all across Europe on the 25th September later this year!
