Rob Appleby appointed Associate Vice President for Students

We are pleased to announce that CI expert Professor Rob Appleby has been appointed Associate Vice President for Students at the University of Manchester.

In his new role, Rob will provide academic leadership for the entire student journey, including admissions, access, and student success. He will promote student wellbeing and belonging, working closely with the Students’ Union to ensure the student voice informs University governance. He will also lead initiatives to improve student outcomes, experience, and satisfaction, including our performance in the National Student Survey (NSS).  

Rob is Professor of Accelerator Physics and has held a number of senior education leadership posts.  His research focuses on the physics of particle accelerators, including manipulating particle beams using THz driven structures and collider physics such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

Rob is passionate about public engagement and science communication, and in 2019 he received the EP European prize for outreach.
