This week is Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW). Science and particularly accelerator physics and engineering research requires dedication, hard work and collaboration. Post doctoral researchers (postdocs) are the life blood of our discipline. They perform much of the day-to-day research tasks, constructing and operating experiments, performing complex simulations, support PhD students, and present our results nationally and internationally.
Often postdocs are on short-term contracts, working at the start of their careers, working hard to develop a research profile and launch their academic journey. We deeply appreciate all the dedication they show in supporting the Cockcroft mission and their contribution to academic life.
The Cockcroft Institute has supported approximately 200 individual postdocs over the last 20 years. Without these postdocs it is impossible to imagine the Cockcroft being as successful as it is today.
This year we have highlighted postdocs from across the Cockcroft partner universities, who are performing a range of diverse research from medical applications to novel advanced acceleration. On a personal note, I was practically trained by an amazing postdoc, all of my best research was done with an outstanding group of post-docs, who I am proud to still call friends, colleagues or collaborators.
