National Postdoc Appreciation Week – Spotlight on Dr Can Davut

Dr Can Davut joined the Manchester Accelerator Physics Group as a PhD student, where he focused on developing a bunch length diagnostic based on Cherenkov diffraction radiation. We often had lively and engaging discussions about the theory of the analysis method.

Can later had the opportunity an experiment at the CLEAR beamline for a setup optimised for the AWAKE electron beam. He quickly and effortlessly became an integral part of the international team during this time.

After completing his PhD in 2023, Can joined my team as a postdoc to work on the electron injector design for the UK XFEL project. He demonstrated remarkable perseverance for the steep learning curve he faced with this topic now completely different to his PhD project.  His excellent communication skills, especially with ASTeC members, led to rapid achievements on the options to be considered for the conceptual design phase for the UK XFEL injector.

Can is an independent, industrious and hardworking researcher with a bright future. He is a great friend to other team members and always provides a helping hand to our PhD students in the group.
