Particle Accelerator Engineering Network Meeting

Lancaster recently played a lead role in the kick-off meeting for a new engineering network linking the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institute of Physics (IoP). The group brings together all types of engineers working on particle accelerators in the UK. The first meeting was held at the shared IMechE/IET headquarters in London and was attended by 110 engineers. The network was organised by a team of leading engineers from Universities, National labs and industry and included Dr Graeme Burt from Lancaster.
Several staff were involved in the meeting including Dr Amos Dexter from Lancaster Engineering Department gave an invited talk at the meeting on phase synchronisation systems for accelerators. Emmy Sharples a PhD student supervised by Dr Rosa Letizia, won the IET sponsored prize for best student poster for her work on metamaterial loaded accelerator components. At the end of the meeting Dr Burt was part of a panel of experts that led a discussion session on the future of the network.
