North West regional office - Institute of Physics

The North West regional office for the Institute of Physics is based at the Cockcroft Institute.  The Institute's North West region covers the counties of Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.  The North West Regional officer, Louise Butcher, is employed full time by the IOP to support members and promote physics in the region.  The North West regional office mainly brings a regional aspect to the activities undertaken by the Institute's head office in London, for instance:

• Forging links with organisations in the region, such as universities, businesses, museums and local government
• Working with local partners to bring events to the region
• Organising outreach activities, such as IOP events for the recent Manchester Science Festival

The Institute of Physics also has three branches in the North West, each run by a volunteer committee of members. The branches organise a programme of talks, which are open to all, not just members of the IOP. Each year, one or two of these events are held at the Daresbury Laboratory.
