Introduction

You are warmly invited to participate in the second workshop on the operation of large vacuum systems to be held at Daresbury Laboratory, March 10-12, 2008. To express your interest in this meeting please email j.d.herbert@dl.ac.uk

The date of the meeting has been chosen to coincide with RGA8 being held at Culham Science Centre on 13th March 2008 (for information go to www.rgausers.org ) There will also be an opportunity to visit Diamond ( www.diamond.ac.uk ), the UK’s 3rd Generation Synchrotron Light Source, located near Culham, on Friday 14th March 2008.

Proposed sessions include:

  • Latest Developments at Institutes
  • Control Systems and Interlocking
  • Pressure Measurements and RGA
  • Experience with Vacuum Pumps
  • Water in Vacuum
  • Vacuum Failures and Recovery
  • Vacuum Component Issues
  • Experience with NEG Coatings
  • Outgassing of Materials

Call for Papers

There is still time to submit an abstract should you wish to make a presentation for one or more of the proposed sessions. Please submit a talk title by email to the chairman, Joe Herbert - j.d.herbert@dl.ac.uk.
A brief abstract should follow outlining key points to be made or issues to be raised. Please bear in mind that this is a ‘Workshop’, and so contributions may be as simple as one overhead with one point for discussion!
The deadline for this is now February 4th 2008.

Registration

Early registration is highly advisable via our online registration system. (http://conf.dl.ac.uk/event.asp?eventID=103)
Accommodation will be at the Holiday Inn, Runcorn and is included in the registration fee. Reservations will be made by the Workshop secretary, there is no need to contact the hotel directly.

The workshop begins at 10:00 on the 10th March 2008 and concludes at 15:15pm the 12th March 2008, to allow time for RGA8 participants to make the journey to the Oxford area.
