Title: Magnet Technology for Novel Particle Accelerators
Abstract: Some of the recent concepts for novel particle accelerators are challenging for current magnet technology, either in terms of field quality, geometrical constraints or performance.
One of these concepts is the Fixed Field Alternating Gradient accelerator (FFAG), which is presently discussed for a number of scientific and industrial applications. In this talk I will outline the magnet solution of the PAMELA project, which is a design study of a particle accelerator for charged particle therapy. PAMELA employs a novel helical coil concept, which has recently been filed for patent.
